Machine tool builders manufacture freehand and offhand machines for handling or machining rigid materials, mainly metal, but also plastic and wood. Automation plays a key role in the development of turning, milling, cutting and lathe machines. Both individual machines and entire manufacturing processes are most often CNC controlled where machining is executed by industrial robots.
